My neighbor arrived at my door one morning and said, "Do I have a book for you. It's by Janet Dailey and I guarantee it'll put a smile on your husbands face." I read it, my husband smiled and I was hooked on romance.
I was always interested in writing and I finally decided to give it a try. The perfect opportunity arrived. I wrote while my kids were out on dates. This way I didn't worry as much and when they arrived home, with a smile, I'd grab their car keys and threaten never to give them back.
The next thing I knew I was at an RWA meeting. Here I found a great group of people to help me discover the world of romance and how to write. I've always been thankful that I found this group of wonderful people because there isn't a better place to learn the craft of writing.
Other than magazines and newspapers I've been published in two romance anthologies, The Trouble With Love from Treble Heart Books and Just In Time from Wings e-Press. Kaleidoscope, an anthology for children, won a national award from The Writers Magazine. It was one in a dozen that were chosen out of 1400 entries. That was fantastic.
After seven years of very little writing on my part, I'm finally working on a novel. I never strayed from my RWA chapter and that's what helped me get back to writing. I co-write with Teresa Lunde of this chapter and we have received attention from editors and agents but we're not quite there yet. We like writing together, but we also like writing our own books.
Two things I won't give up are writing and belonging to RWA.
Sandy and Teresa Davis-Lunde write together as Amy Andrews. Enjoy their contributions in The Trouble with Romance from Treble Hearts Books.
